Fascism, in the true sense of a word that has since been corrupted by history, came to prominence in the early decades of the 20th. century in Europe, chiefly Italy but fascist ideals can be found back under the centuries of the Romans. The true fascist ideals are focused around the State with all contributing to the strength and glory of it: fascism “…affirms the irremediable, fruitful and beneficent inequality of men.” (Mussolini). All members who respect their roles and carry these out succeed. A fascist state resolves economic & social malaise through national millenarian rebirth. From this are drawn individual and national strength & purity, on all levels, be they economic, moral or military. All legal members striving for class collaboration with an individual’s constructive role treated with respect & encouragement. Fascism endorses a mixed economy of private and public enterprise under the umbrella of state-control with a particular attention to national production. A re-generated Fascist State promotes economic modernism of technology and sciences. Private enterprise may flourish with fascism when working in harmony with national objectives. The ideals of the cause raise up high the moral and physical discipline & of all, particularly the youth. An individual cannot be strong when they indulge in deviant or unnatural behavior for such a weak individual drags down a healthy and proud State. Within a true Fascist State, all races are accepted. As an example, consider that for the great majority of the years Italy was a fascist state, all races living in the country were welcome and many of these peoples were members of varying fascist parties. An ideal fascist state embraces all who believe in and work for the nation. The individual is multiplied, in a Fascist State, just as in a regiment a soldier is multiplied by the number of his comrades. The State permits sufficient scope to individuals for it has preserved those that are essential. It cannot be the individual who decides in this matter, but only the State. Fascism respects “…God of the ascetics, of the saints, of the heroes, and also God as seen and prayed to by … the people.” (Mussolini). The Fascist State helps each comrade develop respect for their fellow comrades be they neighbor, colleague, brother-at-arms or the man on the street. Respect through discipline for without that, there is chaos; respect for obedience to society & the good moral structure of it; respect that there is not waste through capitalist over-indulgence and profiteering; respect because there is law, order and a military force that knows there is not perpetual peace and one is prepared through duty for the needs of the State.
I will end with a brief extract from 1932, written by Mussolini which exemplifies the true fascist ideals: “The Fascist State, the highest and most powerful form of personality, is a force, but a spiritual force, which takes over all the forms of the moral and intellectual life of man. . . . It is the form, the inner standard and the discipline of the whole person; it saturates the will as well as the intelligence. Its principle, the central inspiration of the human personality living in the civil community, pierces into the depths and makes its home in the heart of the man of action as well as of the thinker, of the artist as well as of the scientist: it is the soul of the soul. Fascism, in short, is not only the giver of laws and the founder of institutions, but the educator and promoter of spiritual life. It wants to remake, not the forms of human life, but its content, man, character, faith. And to this end it requires discipline and authority that can enter into the spirits of men and there govern unopposed. Its sign, therefore, is the Lictors’ rods, the symbol of unity, of strength and justice.” NB: “Lictors’ rods” is the symbol of fascism and taken from the rods or bundles, known as “fasces”, carried by the lictors, the bodyguards of the magistrates, of ancient Rome.
